I had a very tasty lunch at Taberna El Sur! It was busy, but not overcrowded. The restaurant is tiny, there are no big tables and large comfortable chairs, but they make the most of their limited space. Waiting staff is very friendly, the menu is small but offers a nice variety. I had the croquetas and the ropa vieja and it was delicious. They offer a lot of their food as full and also as half portion, that is something I love in Spain!! Everything else the tables around me ordered looked very good too! I would definitely come back next time I am in Madrid

A tavern restaurant with a relaxed, homely and pleasant atmosphere. Excellent, courteous and charming service. And every dish that arrived was wonderfully impressive with a local feel and unforgettable taste. We had a wonderful time at Taberna El Sur. The service was amazing as was the food. It was very busy, despite being fairly early on a Monday evening, and the crowd looked to be made up of more locals than tourists, which is always a good sign. We had the iberico plate, moussaka, pork cheeks, octopus and garlic prawns. The only slight miss was that the prawns had a bit of grit in them, though the flavor was great. We tried a number of Spanish wines, each better than the last. Highly recommend.
I was looking for a good place for a decent paella. The seafood paella was very very delicious and it came in single or double portions which is great as a lot of places only do paella as a minimum of 2 people and this can be expensive. This place was really nice and we had a sangria each, and shared the paella and huevos rotos con jamon which were both delicious. The only reason this is a 4 star and not a 5 is we ate at a lot of different and more authentic feeling places.
Real traditional Spanish restaurant ie tavern. Although it doesn't look inviting from the outside, the inside will amaze you with the intimate and relaxed energy that characterizes such local places. The service is fast and the food is really tasty, fresh and great! Special praise for the moussaka appetizer and ham croquettes. The main course with pork cheeks melts in your mouth! The prices are more than reasonable, and at the end there was also a nice gesture from the house, which treated us to a drink - limoncello. It is worth coming from further parts of the city, especially if you are a tourist!
Taberna El Sur was one of the most authentic dining experiences we had in Madrid. Tucked away in a neighborhood that feels far from the tourist crowds, it has the charm of a true local tapas spot. The restaurant is small, so be prepared for a wait during peak hours, although we arrived later in the evening and were seated right away. The food was excellent, with delicious traditional Spanish tapas that lived up to the restaurant’s reputation. What made the experience even better was the friendly service. Our waiter was welcoming, attentive, and took the time to make conversation, which added a personal touch to the meal. If you’re looking for authentic Spanish food and a local atmosphere, Taberna El Sur is definitely worth a visit.
If you are in Madrid you must come here. Super quick service, best tapas ever. Any dish you get is incredible. Pork cheeks, shredded beef, prawns, padron peppers, and the sangria is delicious. Cannot recommend more.
